A solitary woman stands in a narrow city alley at night, leaning against a brick wall under dim streetlights, watching quietly in shadow.

She walks among the buildings
Cloaked in the shade
Silently stalking
Watching
Waiting for light to fade
Whether the light from the sky
Or of the false purity of Man
She waits and walks in the shadows

Herself, the only company she’s known
She sees what others won’t
She grieves for those she could not save
She cannot change the Mob, outright
Hence why she hides
Hides from the light
In the comfort of the shadows

From here she goes unseen
Unnoticed, walking on her path
Trying to change the things
She can
Offering her companionship
Only to those who merit it
Knowing that, they too, will disband

A sad existence
One that she willingly takes
Someone must be the Guardian
The Watcher
The Gatekeeper
Even if the burden is solitude
So, she continues her walk
As the Darkness continues
To expand

She stops and waits
Knowing what is to come
A smile too soft
Graces her lips
The Darkness is about
To become undone

To those in Darkness
She is the North Star
Unwavering steadfast
The brightest light
A guide across dark waters
She is cloaked in moonlight
Its beams forming an aura
Allowing her to be
The bridge to the Stars

She fights the fights no one can
Unleashing her fury
On the stupidity of Man
The Mob challenges her
Every time their Darkness expands
Taking another loved one
A reminder they have the upper hand

She doesn’t back down
But paces like the Dark Tiger
Waiting, sensing for an opening
To strike
She doesn’t care what happens to her
The scars are too numerous to count
Those who matter most
Are all she cares about

But quiet lies turn the hearts
And she watches
As those she protected turn their backs
Another stone
More concrete
And another layer is added to wall
Protecting her bleeding heart

But Dawn arrives
She leans back against the building
And sighs
Another gone, another to find
continue the cycle
To finish Shadowlight’s rhyme
